Swiss Seize Success From The Clutches Of The Danes In Extreme Sailing Series Cardiff Final

After climbing the ranks all through the Extreme Sailing Series Cardiff Act (ESSCA) Alinghi – the Swiss kings of foiling-freezed victory for the SAP Extreme Sailing Team who has a strong hold on the match on the final day of the event.

The whole match was crucial and it was a nail-biting finish. It was the four days of racing, and the match was the incredible one. Those who headed for the double points in the final race were Arnaud Psarofaghis, Nicolas Charbonnier, Yves Detrey, Timothé Lapauw and Bryan Mettraux. They were one point more of their Danish counterparts. Their third place finish crushed the victory hopes of the SAP Extreme Sailing Team, securing Alinghi fourth Act win of the season

Psarofaghis, co-skipper who was extremely enthusiastic about the team’s win said “The win of fourth Act was really good,”

He further added that “We actually didn’t start very well in Cardiff. Nils Frei, Our head sail trimmer got injured on the day one itself. But, did not lose our spirit and fought back. We worked really hard and won the race. It is really great to win here for the very first time.”

It was a disappointing match that looked like the promising competition for the SAP Extreme Sailing Team otherwise. After leading the regatta after the first day, the Danes were very positive about the taste of the glory. Nevertheless, the OCS on the final race priced them dearly, demoting them to the back of the fleet for the rest of the race. Eventually, they crossed the line in fourth and this secured their second place on the Act podium.

“At the time we were called over the line, the team’s mood was pretty dark,” said Adam Minoprio.
